How to Value a Website

Recently had someone ask me how to value a website, this person is thinking about selling their website and wants to know if there is an accurate way to measure its value…

The truth is… The value of a website depends entirely on how much its worth to the buyer. For example, A website built for Adsense in the wedding dress niche is not going to be worth much to another internet marketer, but if the site geo-targeting a local city it will now be worth a great deal to a real world wedding dress business (in terms of new clients).

Traditional if your selling a business you would take the income it generates over two years to get some idea of value.

These days the value of a website would take into account data relating to; Google PageRank, Alexa Rank, Technorati Rank, Incoming links, domain history and age… and so on. What it should also consider is the value of the vertical market that its situated in (it’s potential).

Website Value Checker

The value of a website does need to be realistic and take into account a lot of things from the niche to market potential. The best and most credible way to quickly value your website is via a website value checker or tool.

Stimulator.com is a very cool way to check the value of your website.

1to1million.com is only worth $7,267 …Not that bad considering it’s not my primary niche ยป http://stimator.com/1to1million-com

Is it worth that much to me in terms of income over a two year period?
No. But the whole premise behind my ‘Internet marketing Niche’ website is to remove the goal of making money from it so that the information becomes more truthful, realistic and without a hidden agenda.

One of my favorite websites problogger.com gets a value of $1,313,789 but his .com redirects to problogger.net which only gets a value of $42,129. I am assuming that people automatically link to the dot com when blogging an directing traffic to him …be curious to know if Darren thinks this is an accurate estimation?

Mark’s site over at DotSauce.com (another favorite) gets a website value of $1,218,740

Yaro’s site Entrepreneurs-Journey.com/ comes in at $7,323 which is weird, it makes that much money when it’s down for maintenance.

Twitter.com is worth $7,551,440

Let me know what your site is worth and if your disappointed or pleasantly surprised with your website value estimation. Finding a buyer would be another story!

This post is not intended to be a definitive ‘How To Value a Website” Tutorial.

It is very difficult to know the exact value, the estimator is base on the number of visitors to you website, but what if there is only a few visitors but each visitor bring you higher revenue.

try this one http://www.webground.com , much more accurate.
  • It's only worth what people are willing to pay. Your best bet would be to look through ebay for completed auctions then compare and evaluate the condition of both of them. There are to many variables to consider, but ebay is the biggest auction site so it is a good place to get an idea.
  • There is not one that is anywhere close to accurate. Surrounding homes and the area would not be included and these are important items of value. Closest you will get for free is your own Tax Base used for estimating taxes.

I'm looking to sell a small online business and need help in determining it's value. I've used the "Website Value Calculator" at glurk.com but am looking to compare it with similar services.

  • If you can generate a good amount of traffic from search engines + sales = a profitable business which means it may sell quick at a nice price, great article!
  • GoalGuru.com is valued at $ 1,125,122

Obviously they have no way of knowing a site's current revenue but this is interesting.

That's a very slick site Jill, and yeah the tool is certainly not taking into account your revenue or the brand surrounding your name, something that is non transferable! Thanks for dropping. Have bookmarked your site.
